HOFER Weekly Meal Plan 2026: Seven Days from the Leaflet
Short answer: A HOFER meal plan starts on Wednesday evening. Read the leaflet, pick three or four discounted main ingredients, build five or six dishes that share them, leave one day for leftovers. Two people land at 45 to 55 euro a week.
HOFER deals actually running this week
As of September 7, 2026. Pulled straight from the current HOFER data that Flyva uses for meal planning:
- Schweinenacken
- Gouda
- Frischkäse (gewürzt)
- TK-Gemüsemischung
- Feingebäck (Schnecken)
- Zwiebeln (allgemein)
- Forelle
- Olivenöl
- Antipasti
- Rohschinken (allgemein)
- Ravioli
- Gewürzmischungen & Fix-Produkte
- Tortilla-Wraps
- Eisbergsalat
HOFER is Aldi, but not the German Aldi
HOFER belongs to the Aldi Süd group. The range logic, shelf layout and own-brand strategy are the same. The leaflet is not:
- Its own item plan. What is discounted in Germany usually is not in Austria, and the other way round.
- Its own start day. Germany switches on Monday, HOFER on Thursday.
- Its own price level. Austrian grocery prices sit above German ones, so the absolute saving from planning is larger.
Following a German Aldi guide means planning against the wrong week.
What makes HOFER distinctive for planning
- Narrow range, faster decisions. Fewer options means less deliberation. For a weekly plan that is an advantage.
- Own brands as the default. Zurück zum Ursprung for organic and regional, plus base lines for dairy, pasta, rice and tinned goods.
- Short fresh promotions. Fruit and vegetables rotate quickly, often only a few days. Planning on Thursday catches them.
- The middle aisle. The non-food promotions are the most expensive part of the shop, because they are never on the list.
HOFER rhythms
| When | What |
|---|---|
| Thursday | main leaflet switch |
| Monday | additional promotions, often fresh produce |
| Rotating | theme weeks (country weeks, barbecue, baking) |
| Ongoing | bakery box, all day, no promotional price |
Example week for two
Say the leaflet has: chicken breast 1 kg (€7.99), minced meat 500 g (€3.99), potatoes 2 kg (€2.49), carrots 1 kg (€1.29), peppers 500 g (€1.99), mushrooms 400 g (€1.79), natural yoghurt 500 g (€1.09), tinned tomatoes 3-pack (€1.79).
| Day | Dish | Main ingredients |
|---|---|---|
| Thursday | Chicken breast with roast potatoes | chicken, potatoes |
| Friday | Meatballs with mashed potatoes | minced meat, potatoes |
| Saturday | Paprika chicken with rice | peppers, chicken |
| Sunday | Creamy mushroom sauce with pasta | mushrooms |
| Monday | Tomato sugo with minced meat | tinned tomatoes, minced meat |
| Tuesday | Carrot and potato soup | carrots, potatoes |
| Wednesday | Leftovers with yoghurt dip | yoghurt |
Roughly €45 to €55, including a share of pantry items like oil, onions, pasta, rice and spices. About €3.40 per portion.
Potatoes appear in four dishes, minced meat in two. The overlap is the saving, not the individual discount.
The HOFER-specific trap
The middle aisle. Two rules that hold up:
- Write the list first, then keep to it. The promotion next to the shelf is never part of the plan.
- Bakery box only on purpose. It runs all day at full price and pushes every shop up by two to four euro.
Recipes that fit
- Lentil bolognese: for weeks with tinned tomatoes in the leaflet.
- One-pot budget recipes: eight dishes from pantry staples.
- Cheap recipes for every day: quick weeknight dinners.
The full collection sits in the recipe database, the live overview under weekly plan with HOFER deals.
Combining HOFER with other shops
- HOFER for staples, meat, dairy, own brands.
- BILLA or BILLA PLUS for the week's fresh promotions.
- SPAR when it is closer, especially outside cities.

How Flyva handles it
Flyva reads the current HOFER leaflet and builds a weekly plan with a matching shopping list, adjusted to household size, budget and diet. No manual cross-referencing between leaflet and recipe.
Bottom line
HOFER is the simplest shop to plan around in Austria: narrow range, strong own brands, a clear Thursday rhythm. Move planning to Wednesday evening, ignore the middle aisle, and two people land at 45 to 55 euro a week.

Frequently asked questions
Is HOFER the same as Aldi?
HOFER belongs to the Aldi Süd group and is its Austrian operation. Range and own brands overlap heavily, but the leaflet is separate: different items, different prices, different start day. A German Aldi leaflet is not usable for a shop in Austria.
When does the HOFER leaflet start?
The main switch is Thursday, with additional promotions starting Monday and recurring theme weeks. Plan on Wednesday evening or Thursday morning.
What does a HOFER week cost for two people?
Planning around the leaflet, two people land at roughly 45 to 55 euro for seven dinners. Without a plan it is usually 70 to 80, because the middle-aisle promotions and the bakery box end up in the trolley.
Can HOFER own brands cover a whole week?
Yes. Zurück zum Ursprung covers organic and regional, and the base own-brand lines cover dairy, pasta, rice and tinned goods. A full week on own brands only is realistic and cuts the bill by 15 to 20 percent.
Is it worth shopping HOFER and BILLA in the same week?
Usually yes. HOFER supplies the base at discounter prices, BILLA the deeper fresh-produce and brand promotions. Buying only promoted items at the second shop covers the detour within three or four positions.
